Damian Lillard on dealing with blood clot: 'It was a little bit scary…that's a thing that can affect your life'
“It was a little bit scary,” Lillard said on Friday. “I think I’ve had a couple of surgeries in my career. I’ve had things I’ve had to deal with, you know, with an ankle or a knee, Achilles, calf, whatever it might be. But those are all things that you go to rehab, you deal with it like that, like an athlete would. “I’m thinking that’s what I was going into, and then you see a blood clot. Obviously, that’s a thing that can affect your life.”

Current starting 5 that everyone hates (Rollins/TP/Kuz/Giannis/Brook) is +13.0 w/130 ORTG in 294 poss. The version w/Dame also put up solid numbers (+6.7 in 428 poss). I’m chalking it up to Giannis being that good pic.x.com/xAXDllJsjD – 8:02 PM

More on this storyline
The nine-time All-Star first recognized the pain in his calf as similar to a strain, but the swelling and tightness in his leg were alarming enough to get it checked out. “I was at dinner, and my leg just felt swollen. It was like super tight,” Lillard said. “And that was kind of what led me to go to the team in the first place, because I was just like ‘This ain’t normal.’ We went from there.” -via New York Times / April 18, 2025
Scott Agness: Official injury report for Pacers-Bucks Game 1: Ben Sheppard (left great toe sprain) is probable. He sat out the final five games of the regular season. Damian Lillard (reconditioning) and Tyler Smith (left ankle sprain) are out. -via Twitter @ScottAgness / April 18, 2025
The Bucks didn’t go through an entire practice in advance of their afternoon flight to Indianapolis, but it was the second day in a row Damian Lillard participated without limitation. He said that the specialists and doctors he had been seeing acknowledged this was a remarkably quick recovery from such a diagnosis. “They were just like, ‘we don’t see this,’” Lillard said. “For me, I was just like, it was a different experience for me because I went in there a bunch of times and it was the same size. So I’m like, it didn’t seem that special and then it just reached a point where it just got a lot smaller out of nowhere. They did say that.” -via Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel / April 18, 2025
